Your Guide to Virginia City

Things to do in Virginia City

The first thing to do is adjust your attitude for the altitude, this may be accomplished by either going to the Bucket of Blood for a Bloody Mary, or, for the nondrinker, try a nice iced coffee from the Roasting House. Now cross the street and walk south, strolling in and out of our shops (making sure to stop in and see me at 32 South C Street!). At the end of this block is the visitor's center, buy tickets to attractions and use the RESTROOM. Leaving the visitor center, with a ticket to the train in hand, walk down to the Virginia and Truckee Rail for a train ride (bring water).  After walking back up, you'll be hungry, so you can try: Virginia City Jerky Co (BBQ), Palace for Burgers (Frisco is my favorite) or Virginia City Joe's for Fish and Chips.

Now walking to the Virginia City Trolley for a sitting tour is in order. To finish, see The Way It Was Museum and then walk over to Grandma's Fudge for ice cream, yum. Stroll to your delight. Don't forget to get a souvenir penny of Mark Twain from Historic Sundance.

The Historic Fourth Ward School Museum & Archives is a can't miss stop, as it includes records that document the Comstock history from 1875 to present.

Now that's a nice day in Virginia City.

Tips:

  • Virginia City is at 6200 ft so take it easy while you adjust.
  • Hydrate - Hydrate - Hydrate
  • Alcohol affects you more at high altitudes... that's either good or bad depending on your goals.
